| The Cutty Sark off Beachy Head by John Steven Dews, signed 1979
Stunning signed limited edition print (compromised, see below) by John Steven Dews 94/250. The tea cutter Cutty Sark was composite built in 1869 at Dumbarton for Captain John Wills a London ship owner. Renowned for her record breaking passages on the Australian wool trade routes under Captain Woodget she has spent her last years on display in Greenwich, where sadly she suffered severe fire damage and is currently under restoration.
John Steven Dews was born in Yorkshire in 1949 and has become one of the country's leading maritime artists with his last oil painting selling for £120,000. His prints are well sought after and avidly collected worldwide. This picture was part of the Amoco Heritage Collection of twelve marine paintings produced in 1979. They were limited to 250, all signed and numbered by the artist. Unfortunately they have subsequently been reproduced, not signed or numbered, but compromising the original limited edition. Without this the picture would fetch between £150-£250. These pictures with the original numbering and pencil signature are still highly collectable and offered at a once only price.
The picture is in excellent condition, image size 760mm x 510mm.
