Early copper plate engraved map of Algier in Africa by Mattaus Merian published in Frankfurt around 1646. The picture gives a birds eye view of the city and its fortifications.
 
The picture does has some light creasing as you would expect from an engraving of this age, central fold as issued. Size of engraved area 340mm x 220mm.

Plan of the Camp of Tarragona Spain C1745
 
Early Isaac Basire copper plate engraved map of 'Plan of the Camp of Tarragona' in the historical region of Catalonia in Spain. The map was produced for Mr Tindal's Continuation of Mr Rapkin's History of England around 1745.
 
The map shows the cities of Tarragona, Reus, La Silva and Alcouva and also shows that the hills marked with a cross are impracticable for cavalry.  
 
The map, which is hand coloured, has folds as issued but also a join. The join has been expertly undertaken and looks more like a fold than an actual join. If you enlarge the screen image it runs vertically through the left hand ship. Otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 460mm x 360mm.

Copper plate engraving of the Battle of Corunna in the Peninsular Wars, which in turn was part of the Napoleonic Wars. The engraving, by Fittler from an original drawing by Adam Neale shows the Harbour of Corunna in North West Spain. The British Army under Sir John Moore was evacuated from the harbour by the Royal Navy in 1808. The picture was published by Thomas Kelly in London in 1816.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, has some water staining, mainly to the borders but also just encroaching onto the image on the right hand side. There is also some light creasing, otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 210mm x 120mm.

A Sketch of the Two Shores of England and France by William Barlow C1770.
 
Scarce early copper plate map 'A Sketch of the Two Shores of England and France and the Source of the Rivers with the names of several of those Places most noted by the Romans and Saxons in which the Bounds of the Shores and the Point of the Compass are taken from Dr Halley's Chart which adds to the Authority of Ptolemys Calculation who gives to the Cantium 54 Degrees of Latitude'. The map is by William Barlow and dates from around 1770. Superb lino-cut by the Polish artist Henryk Polubinski. The picture is titled 'Statki'  and is signed in pencil and dated 1965. I believe the scene is somewhere in the Gdansk region of Poland. The artists last exhibition was in Friedberg Germany in 1983. We will be listing other works by this artist over the next few weeks.
 
The picture is on very fine paper and in good condition. Size of engraved area 260mm x 210mm.

Ley Kenyon was a prisoner in the famous Stalag Luft 111 in Zagan Poland at the time of the Great Escape on the 24 March 1944. As a skilled artist he was asked by the escape committee to make a visual record of 'Harry' the tunnel used in the escape. He made six drawings; these were later recovered and can now be found in the RAF Museum in Hendon. This is a terrific lithograph which will look stunning mounted and framed.

The plan covers the Barbican, Cheapside and London Wall and also shows the Coat of Arms of John Blachford.  
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is laid on card, has some slight discolouration and is close trimmed to the left hand side. Otherwise in good condition, price does reflect the minor faults described. Size of engraved area 360mm x 250mm.

The Cutty Sark off Beachy Head by John Steven Dews, signed 1979 

Stunning signed limited edition print by John Steven Dews 94/250. The tea cutter Cutty Sark was composite built in 1869 at Dumbarton for Captain John Wills a London ship owner. Renowned for her record breaking passages on the Australian wool trade routes under Captain Woodget she has spent her last years on display in Greenwich, where sadly she suffered severe fire damage and is currently under restoration.
 
John Steven Dews was born in Yorkshire in 1949 and has become one of the country's leading maritime artists with his last oil painting selling for £120,000. His prints are well sought after and avidly collected worldwide. This picture was part of the Amoco Heritage Collection of twelve marine paintings produced in 1979. 
 
The picture is in excellent condition, image size 760mm x 510mm.
