Very rare etching of the 'South East view of the Prince's Chambers...' . The picture comes from the Antiquities of Westminster published by John Thomas Smith and is dated 1809. The engraving is etched by John Thomas Smith. The Prince's Chambers is a small anteroom between the Royal Gallery and the Lord's Chambers in the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament).
 
The engraving is in very good condition. Size of engraved area 240mm x 150mm.

Vanity Fair, 'Hobart Pasha' by Spy 1878.
 
Original Vanity Fair of Augustus Charles Hobart dated 1 June 1878. The 3rd son of the Earl of Buckinghamshire he entered the British Navy and saw active service during the Crimean War. He retired from the navy and during the American Civil War commanded a blockade runner operating off the coast of North Carolina. Desiring to remain in active service he offered his services to the Sultan of Turkey and commanded the Turkish Fleet in the Black Sea earning the name Pasha.
 
The picture is in good condition. Size of engraved area 310mm x 180mm.

Early folding copper plate engraving by J V Schey from Des Herrn Admirals published around 1750. The picture relates to George Anson, Commander in Chief of a squadron of eight ships sent to harass the Spanish off the Western coast of South America..

Early folding copper plate map engraved for Anderson's edition of Captain Cook's Voyages and published by Hogg in 1785.

 

In this engraving there are four separate maps, charts of Tahiti, two of Ulietea and Huaheine. The charts illustrates small islands, sandbanks, watering places, depth soundings and anchorages. There are scales of distance and compasses.

 

The map, which has later hand colouring, has some creasing, the most visible being the top right hand corner, but generally it is in good condition. Size of engraved area 340m x 210mm.

Copper plate road map ' The Road from London to St Davids'. The map shows Maidenhead, Henley, Abington, Monmouth, Aberavon, Haverford West etc and was published around 1775. There is an uncoloured map on the reverse.

Copper plate engraving of 'The Burning the Town of Paypa' off the coast of Santa Fee in the South Sea by George Anson. This is a smaller copy of a J.S Muller engraving originally published around 1750. This picture dates from around 1790.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is a faint impression but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 100mm x 60mm which is quite small (4" x 2.5").

The map, which has later hand colouring, has some creasing and is close trimmed to the right hand border. There is also a slight tear in the right hand border, very common on folding maps. Size of engraved area 330m x 320mm.

A view of the anchoring place at Tenian, Centurion, Anson C1748.
 
Early folding copper plate engraving from 1748 'A view of the anchoring place at Tenian where the Centurion watered'. The picture is from the Atlas to Anson's voyage. Engraved by Johann Sebatien Muller 1715-1785. The Centurion was Anson's flagship.
George Anson commanded the fleet in 1747 that defeated the French Admiral de la Jonquière at the First Battle of Cape Finisterre , capturing four ships of the line , two frigates and seven merchantmen. He was promoted to Vice Admiral and elevated to the peerage as Baron Anson of Soberton. He subsequently became First Lord of the Admiralty between 1757 and 1762.

The picture, which has later hand colouring, is folded as issued and a little grubby around the edges. Size of engraved area 480mm x 190mm.

Pencil signed etching by Philip Pimlott (1871-1960) of the Tower of London and what looks like a Thames barge in the foreground. The picture is dated in the plate 1910.
 
The picture has a small hole bottom left hand corner, just off the image, otherwise it is in good condition. Size of engraved area 190m x 140mm.

The text on the left details some of the main towns and shows the number of MPs representing the area. It also details the days when the markets are on.

The Dey of Algiers surrendering to Lord Exmouth, Slavery related C1820

Early copper plate engraving of ' The Dey of Algiers surrendering to Lord Exmouth 1085 Christian Slaves and all the money received in ransom amounting to 382,500 Dollars Aug 28 1816'.

The picture, which has early hand colouring, has been close trimmed and stuck on card which has discoloured. However the picture is in good condition and will look fine mounted and framed. Size of engraved area 200m x 160mm.
