Early copper plate engraving of a battle during the Anglo Dutch Wars of 1672. Published by R Bowyer between 1793 and 1806 for David Hume's 'The History of England'. Engraved by Rhodes from an original painting by Cleveley the picture is dated 1797. A wonderful maritime scene.

Ramsgate, Kent, large format steel engraving by T A Prior C1860
Stunning steel engraving published between 1860-83 of Ramsgate in Kent. The picture was engraved by T A Prior from an original drawing by G H Andrews. Super view of the harbour entrance showing the lighthouse with the town in the background, sailing ships and people milling around on the harbour wall.
The picture, which has later hand colouring, has some light foxing, mainly noticeable to the borders and a couple of other marks etc as you would expect from a picture of this size and age. Price does reflect condition. Size of engraved area 410mm x 210mm.

Quite a rare copper plate engraving of the parade, West Cowes on the Isle of Wight by George Brannon. Published in London February 1821 by Brannon the picture was sold by booksellers on the Island.
The picture has some very minor staining/discolouration mainly to the borders but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 200mm x 120mm.

| Prospect of Inverness, Scotland 1693.
Scarce early copper plate engraving titled 'Prospectus Civitatis Innerness- The Prospect of ye Town of Innerness'. the view shows the South side of St Andrews Inverness Scotland with the River Eden in the background. Engraved by John Slezer this engraving comes from his best known work 'Theatrum Scotiae which was published in 1693, a rare print.
John Slezer was a Dutch or German born engineer and artist who arrived in Scotland in 1669, he was later arrested and imprisoned in 1688 for his sympathies towards King James V11.
The picture has some light brown staining around the border from a previous matting but generally in good order for its age. Folds as issued. Size of engraved area 405mm x 260mm.

Rare early copper plate engraving 'South View of London Street, Dockhead, in the Water Side Division of the Parish of St Mary Magdalen Bermondsey, Surrey with the Adjacent Plan'. Engraved by Wise from an original illustration by Schnebbelie the picture comes from Robert Wilkinson's 'Londina Illustrata' which was published in 1819. The picture is dated October 11th 1813. A super picture showing many long forgotten wharves such as Hagens Wharf, Meritons Wharf, Maues Wharf, Scotts Wharf, Allens Wharf etc. Plan view from the River Thames into St Saviours Dock.

USS Wasp & H.M.S Frolic C1815
Early copper plate engraving of the USS Wasp and H.M.S Frolic. The action between the two ships occurred on the 18th October 1812 with the Wasp coming off best. Both ships were damaged and the Wasp was eventually captured by a British Ship of the Line which was in the vicinity. Super engraving, quite small but rare.

Rare early lithograph published by Beverly Tucker in 1856 for 'Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan'. by Commodore William Perry. The picture shows the 'First landing at Gorahama'. The landing took place on the 14th July 1853 when Commodore Perry met with officials from the Japanese Government. The two ships in the background are the US Frigates Mississippi and Susquehanna. Illustrated by Wilhelm Heine the lithographers were P S Duval & Co.

Steel engraving 'The Great Britain Steam Ship, the largest ship ever built'. Engraved for Rock and Co in London the picture dates from around 1850. The Great Britain was built by T.R.Guppy at the works of the Great Western Steamship Company in Bristol and was launched on the 19th July 1843. Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Superb early aquatint of the Capture of Mahonesa, October 13th 1796. The engraving comes from Jenkin's Naval Achievements of Great Britain published in 1816. This work is still regarded as one of the finest monuments to Nelson's navy ever produced. The picture is engraved by T Sutherland from a painting by T Whitcombe. A very rare print.
The Mahonesa was a Spanish ship commanded by Don Thomas Agalde, a British Captain. She was captured by H.M.S. Terpsichore, commanded by Richard Bowen, around Cabo De Gata in the Western Mediteranean.

Superb early aquatint of the 'Defence of the Centurion in Vizagapatam Road, September 18th 1804'. Super scene from the Battle of Vizagapatam India between the British and French Squadrons. The picture is engraved by Thomas Sutherland who engraved many of the plates for Jenkin's Naval Achievements of Great Britain published in 1816, regarded as one of the finest monuments to Nelson's navy ever produced. The picture was published by Whitmore and Fenn in London 1818.
The picture, which has original hand colouring, has some issues; the engraving is laid on card and has some marks and creasing, the most prominent being at the bottom running between the O & N in Centurion and just onto the image. Bligh and H.M.S Bounty 1791
Rare copper plate engraving 'Lieut: Bligh and the Crew of the Ship Bounty hospitably received by the Governor of Timor'. William Bligh is most well known for being set adrift in H.M.S. Bounty's launch following the mutiny in 1789. He eventually landed in Timor after a remarkable voyage. Bligh also sailed, as sailing master, with Captain James Cook in 1776 on the Resolution.
The picture, which comes from Ashburton's History of England, was engraved by Bromley from an original drawing by Benezach and is dated 1791.
