Norwegian Patrol (H.M.S. Cossack) by John Steven Dews, signed by the artist, 1979

Stunning signed print from a limited edition of 250 (compromised, see below) by John Steven Dews. During February 1940 H.M.S. Cossack, whilst on patrol off the Norwegian coast, received a report that the German tanker Altmark had been sighted. Held prisoner aboard the Altmark were 299 British Merchant Seamen. H.M.S. Cossack went into action and quickly trapped the Altmark in an ice covered fjord. A boarding party captured the vessel and liberated her prisoners. In April that year she received heavy damage in the Battle at Narvik. She was once again in action when, with other destroyers, she attacked the German battleship Bismark.

H.M.S. Cossack was torpedoed and sunk off Gibraltar in 1941. She was a Tribal class destroyer built in 1938 by Vickers Armstrong having an overall length of 379 feet and a displacement of 1870 tons.

John Steven Dews was born in Yorkshire in 1949 and has become one of the country's leading maritime artists with his last oil painting selling for £120,000. His prints are well sought after and avidly collected worldwide. This picture was part of the Amoco Heritage Collection of twelve marine paintings produced in 1979.

The Great Ice Barrier (Scott's Discovery) by John Steven Dews, signed by the artist, 1979

Stunning signed print from a limited edition of 250 (compromised, see below) by John Steven Dews. The ship Discovery was built at Dundee in 1901 as an Antarctic expedition ship. She is 172 feet long and has a displacement of 1620 tons. Discovery left England on the 6th August 1901, commanded by Robert Falcon Scott and after taking on extra stores in New Zealand she headed for the Southern Continent.

When they encountered the ice pact, for four days, they forced their way through until they sighted land. They then cruised along The Great Ice Barrier until finally anchoring at Hut Point, Ross Island. Here they set up their scientific installations and remained there for two years gripped in the ice. Scott died on a subsequent expedition to the South Pole.

Catapult Take Off (HMS Ark Royal) by John Steven Dews, signed 1979

Stunning signed limited edition print (compromised, see below) by John Steven Dews 124/250. H.M.S Ark Royal was Britain's last fixed wing aircraft carrier. She was completed in 1955 and at 43,000 tons was almost the largest warship ever built in Britain. After a career spanning 23 years and with the advent of vertical take off and landing aircraft she inevitably became obsolete.

Stunning limited edition print 8/150

Super limited edition print on heavy art paper and signed by the artist in pencil, unfortunately I cannot read the signature. The print is number 8 of 150 and has very strong colours. I purchased this at auction where it was listed as 'The shipping owners dream' but this is not shown anywhere on the picture.

The postage for this will be £6.00 UK and £11.00 international because of the size and the fact that it will need to be sent flat packed rather than rolled. Excellent condition, image size; 570mm x 370mm.
