Scarce early folding map of the Island of Tahiti published in 1845 for Charles Wikes 'US World exploring expedition'. The map was engraved by Sherman and Smith in New York. Super South Pacific map.

| Chart of the South Sea Islands 1806.
Scarce early folding copper plate engraving titled 'A Chart of the Islands discovered in the South Sea to the Year 1620, with the Tracks of some of the Principal Discoverers. Published by James Burney March 10th 1806. The map has the Salomon Islands marked amongst others with a reference to Australia and New Guinea. Super map engraved by J Pickett.
The map has some light brown staining and some minor offsetting but generally in good condition. Folds as issued. Size of engraved area 410mm x 250mm.

The Fortifications of Gibraltar 1738
Rare early copper plate engraving ' Plan of the Town and Fortifications of Gibraltar, exactly taken on the Spot in the Year 1738'. Produced for M Tindal's continuation of Mr Rapin's History of England. The map is by Isaac Basire and was published around 1745 by Paul & James Knapton. Super map with fine shell cartouche and ships in the foreground.
The picture which is hand coloured has quite a bit of light foxing and a couple of vertical creases but price more than reflects condition, click on image for a detailed view. Folds as issued. Size of image 590mm x 360mm.

The top left image is of St Pierre et Miquelon a small group of islands in the North Atlantic off the coast of Canada (Newfoundland and Labrador). Top right is the Iles Marquises in French Polynesia, bottom left is Guyane in the Atlantic off the coast of South America and bottom right is Madagascar in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa. The map comes from the Atlas Illustre de la France (La France et ses Colonies) and was published in Paris around 1880. Produced by A Vuillemin the map was engraved by Isdore.

Germany 1760
Early copper plate map ' Principatus Calenberg et Gruben, Hagen....'. The map is a representation of the area around Hanover, Hildersheim, Gottingen and Paderborn in Germany by Alberti Caroli Seuteri and dates from around 1760.
The map, which has original hand colouring, has been re-margined and also has some slight restoration but is still a superb rare map with the price relecting the condition. Size of engraved area 250mm x 180mm.

Plan of the Camp of Tarragona Spain C1745
Early Isaac Basire copper plate engraved map of 'Plan of the Camp of Tarragona' in the historical region of Catalonia in Spain. The map was produced for Mr Tindal's Continuation of Mr Rapkin's History of England around 1745.
The map shows the cities of Tarragona, Reus, La Silva and Alcouva and also shows that the hills marked with a cross are impracticable for cavalry.
The map, which is hand coloured, has folds as issued but also a join. The join has been expertly undertaken and looks more like a fold than an actual join. If you enlarge the screen image it runs vertically through the left hand ship. Otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 460mm x 360mm.

Copper plate engraved map of Thessaly by J D Barbie du Bocage. The map featuring mainland Greece and the Islands of Euboea, Skiathos and Skopelos was engraved by J Russell, probably for Jean-Jacques Barthelemy's Travels of Anacharsis. Published by J Mawman in Poultry, London July 1805.

Goree Island, West Africa, Mallet C1683
Very early copper plate map of 'Goree Island, Senegal West Africa from Allain Mallet's 'Description I'Universe', published in France in 1683. Goree Island is one of 19 communes of the City of Dakar, Senegal and for many years one of the locations where slaves were processed and transported from. The upper map shows the location of the island just off Cape Verde.

Early copper plate map showing a plan of the Bay of Ternay (Ternai) on the coast of the Sea of Japan Eastern Russia. The map comes from 'A Voyage around the World' published in 1798 by GG & J Robinson in London. The bay was discovered by La Perouse, a French navigator who had missed out on claiming Australia for France by a few hours to Captain Cook. The plan shows the locations of La Perouse's frigates Boussole and Astrolabe. An important map.

Rare early folding copper plate map ' Chart of the discoveries made in the Atlantic Ocean in the vessel Resolution by Captain Cook 1775'. French map engraved by Benard around 1785 showing the Isle of Georgia in the South Atlantic.

Very early rare copper plate map of Jamaica dating from around 1676 probably engraved by Charles Lamb. The map has text on the reverse, titled 'The description of the New Netherlands, now called New York'. I believe it changed to New York around 1670.
The map is hand coloured, could be contemporary with the picture but it is hard to tell. Slightly grubby around the border and a little discoloured with some text showing through. Size of engraved area 120mm x 80mm.
