Sub-titled 'With 300 British sailors defended the Breach of Acre'. Sidney Smith is the Admiral of whom Napoleon said ' That man made me miss my destiny'. Robert Blake 1831 
 
Early steel engraving of Robert Blake by J Cochran dated 1831 from an original picture painted by H.P. Briggs. The original painting was presented to Greenwich Hospital by Sir Robert Preston. Robert Blake (1559-1657) was General at Sea and sometimes referred to as 'Father of the Navy'.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is in very good condition.  Size of engraved area 130mm x 100mm.

Rear Admiral Richard Kempenfelt (1718-1782) 
 
Early steel engraving of Rear Admiral Richard Kempenfelt by H Robinson from an original painting by Kettle. The picture dates from around 1830. In 1781 Richard Kempenfelt won the Battle of Ushant against the French under de Guichen with a vastly inferior fleet capturing twenty ships.
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is a bit grubby around the border, not affecting the image but otherwise in very good condition.  Size of engraved area 120mm x 100mm.

Vanity Fair, 'Hobart Pasha' by Spy 1878.
 
Original Vanity Fair of Augustus Charles Hobart dated 1 June 1878. The 3rd son of the Earl of Buckinghamshire he entered the British Navy and saw active service during the Crimean War. He retired from the navy and during the American Civil War commanded a blockade runner operating off the coast of North Carolina. Desiring to remain in active service he offered his services to the Sultan of Turkey and commanded the Turkish Fleet in the Black Sea earning the name Pasha.
 
The picture is in good condition. Size of engraved area 310mm x 180mm.

Superb hand coloured aquatint 'The Cockpit, Battle of the Nile' by William Heath and engraved by Matthew Dobourg. The picture comes from Historic, Military and Naval Anecdotes published in 1817. Picture shows Nelson wounded in battle.
 
The picture, which has original hand colouring, is discoloured around the inner border with some foxing to the outer border, otherwise it is in good condition. Size of engraved area 300m x 190mm.
