We are now offering a selection of original watercolours and limited edition prints by marine artist Anthony Blackman. To view his portfolio please click on the banner at the top of the Home page. 
 
Renowned for his maritime paintings in both the UK and USA Anthony's work rarely comes onto the market as most of his paintings are held in private collections around the world. The paintings listed are exclusive to the Maritime Gallery and are not available through any other outlet.
 
Anthony's recent exhibitions include; The Texas Seaport Museum International Festival of Maritime Art, The Pearl Fincher Museum in Houston and in 2009 the prestigious Royal Society of Marine Artists' Annual Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.  
Early Kent map C1833
 
Rare early steel engraved map of Kent by Hoare & Reeves and published by J Duncan around 1833. The full title is 'Map of the County of Kent; Divided into Hundreds'. The sub-title reads 'Containing the District Divisions and other Local Arrangements effected by the Reform Bill'. A super map extensively detailed. 
 
The picture has some original outline colour and apart from some very minor foxing is in good condition. Size of engraved area 430mm x 350mm.

Early copper plate engraving of 'A Plan of the River Salwarp and of the Navigable Canal from Droitwich to the River Severn in the County of Worcestershire'. Super plan featuring Hamford Mill, Papist Mill, Salwarp, Bryers Mill, Appler Mill, Jacob's Ladder, Boycott Brook etc. Published in the Gent Magazine 1771.

Norwich Town Plan 1807 
 
Scarce town plan of Norwich published in 1807 to accompany the Beauties of England and Wales. The map was engraved by J Roper from an original drawing by G Cole. The small inset bottom left is of St Ethelbert's Gate and was engraved by J Smith.
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, is a bit grubby around the borders, not affecting the image, otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 230mm x 170mm.

The map, which has later hand colouring, has some tape on the reverse along one of the folds and is discoloured, otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 220mm x 160mm.

Great Roads of South Britain 1742
 
Early copper plate engraving of ' A Map of the Great Roads from London to all parts of South Britain' by Badeslade and Toms dated 1742. Thomas Badeslade was a surveyor on the canals and these maps are engraved by William Henry Toms from his surveys. The text on the left details some of the distances and completed miles.
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, has a central fold as issued and is a little grubby around the border with a stain top centre which will mount out. The bottom fold is also starting to come apart but an easy fix, otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 150mm x 140mm.

Early copper plate John Senex (fl.1690-1740) map showing 'The Road from London to Flamborough Head passing through Peterborough and Lincoln, commencing at Stilton in the York Road'. The map also shows the roads from London to Boston commencing at Pekirk and from Lincoln to Boston. Engraved by J Gibson the map comes from the Gent Magazine and dates from around 1775.
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, has a small repair to the top left hand corner and some slight damage to the top border adjacent to the word 'Head'. There is also a small tear in column V11, price does reflect condition. Folds issued. Size of engraved area 290mm x 180mm.

Early copper plate map of Huntingdonshire. This small county map was published for Daniel Defoe's 'Tour Through the Whole Island of Great Britain' published around 1750. They are also known as Osborne maps. 
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, has two tiny restored worm holes along the top engraved border but otherwise in good condition. Size of engraved area 170mm x 140mm.

Scarce early copper plate map 'A Sketch of the Two Shores of England and France and the Source of the Rivers with the names of several of those Places most noted by the Romans and Saxons in which the Bounds of the Shores and the Point of the Compass are taken from Dr Halley's Chart which adds to the Authority of Ptolemys Calculation who gives to the Cantium 54 Degrees of Latitude'. The map is by William Barlow and dates from around 1770. The map, mainly of Kent and the Isle of Thanet, shows Canterbury, Keston, Crayford, Maidstone, Otford, Lenham, Newenden, Chilham, Rochester, Sandwich, Higham, Oldberry, Faversham and Dover amongst others.

Copper plate engraving of 'Cripplegate Ward with its Divisions into Parishes according to a new survey'. Engraved by Benjamin Cole the plan comes from William Maitland's part work ' History of London' published around 1755. The top picture is of St Luke's Hospital for lunatics in Upper Moorfields. The plan covers the Barbican, Cheapside and London Wall and also shows the Coat of Arms of John Blachford.  
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is laid on card, has some slight discolouration and is close trimmed to the left hand side. Otherwise in good condition, price does reflect the minor faults described. Size of engraved area 360mm x 250mm.

Early copper plate map of Monmouthshire by Badeslade and Toms dated 1741. Thomas Badeslade was a surveyor on the canals and these maps are engraved by William Henry Toms from his surveys. The text on the left details some of the main towns and shows the number of MPs representing the area. It also details the days when the markets are on.
