After trading for many years the time has finally come to hang up the frames and retire. Our warm thanks to all our loyal clients; your support over the ten years the site has been running has been much appreciated.

Early copper plate engraving ‘Gezigt Van Bezitneeming – Baai Aan Het Eiland Zuid – Georgie’ published around 1800, possibly in Holland or France. The image is of the South Georgian mountains, South Georgia and comes from the travels of Captain Cook. An interesting picture.  

The picture, which has later hand colouring, is on laid paper and has multi vertical and horizontal folds which appear to be as issued, otherwise in very good condition.  Size of engraved area 350mm x 200mm.

Copper plate engraving 'A Dance in Otaheite' engraved by J Davenport and dating from around 1820. It looks like some of Captain Cook's crew viewing on the right hand side of the image.

The picture, which has later hand colouring, has a crease top right just above the border, the top right border is also a little grubby, otherwise in good condition. Size of the engraved area is 160m x 110mm.

Scarce early folding engraving of the 'Karakakooa in Owyhee' Hawaii, from Cook's Voyages. The picture which dates from around 1820 was engraved by Cooper. Fine view with canoes in the foreground. 
 
The picture has a couple of holes in it, one, quite wide, just to the left of the rock and one small hole about two inches above it in the fold. However both are only visible when held to the light, and price does reflect. Folds as issued. Size of engraved area 270mm x 130mm.

In this engraving there are four separate maps, charts of Tahiti, two of Ulietea and Huaheinehe. The charts illustrates small islands, sandbanks, watering places, depth soundings and anchorages. There are scales of distance and compasses.

 
The map, which has later hand colouring, has some creasing, the most visible being the top right hand corner, but generally it is in good condition. Size of engraved area 340m x 210mm.

Rare early copper plate map from the Official British publication of Cook's Third Voyage 1785. The map shows the approaches and water depths around the Portuguese Colony of Macau across the bay from Hong Kong.  
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, is a little grubby around the borders but generally in very good condition. Size of engraved area 260mm x 220mm

Rare early folding copper plate map 'Chart of Norton Sound and of Bherings Strait made by the East Cape of Asia and the West Point of America' from Cook's third voyage.  
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, is a little grubby around the borders but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 380mm x 280mm.

Sketch of the Harbour of Samganooda on the Island of Oonalaska 1785 
 
Rare early copper plate map from the Official British publication of Cook's Third Voyage 1785. Both Cook's ships on this voyage, the Resolution and the Discovery, were badly in need of repairs so he headed for Unalaska (Aleutians) and the harbour of Samgoonada where the ship's carpenters took 3 weeks undertake the necessary work. During his enforced stay in Sanganooda Captain Cook charted the harbour taking depth soundings and drawing the harbour topography.  
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, is a little grubby around the borders but generally in very good condition. Size of engraved area 180mm x 170mm.

Samganooda Island of Oonalaska Alaska Captain Cook 1785
Christmas Island (Captain Cook's third voyage) 1785 
 
Rare early copper plate map from the Official British publication of Cook's Third Voyage 1785. Christmas Island was discovered by Captain James Cook in the ships Resolution and Discovery on December 24, 1777. Named because they spent their Christmas there. This is the first mapping of Christmas Island (Kiribati).  
 
The map, which has later hand colouring, is a little grubby around the borders but generally in very good condition. Size of engraved area 210mm x 180mm.

Early folding copper plate map from the Official British publication of Cook's Third Voyage 1785. The map contains engravings taken from on-the-spot drawings by John Webber and William Bligh. John Webber was the official artist to the expedition and Bligh was the master of the "Resolution".  
 
The picture, which has later hand colouring, is a little discoloured around the border but generally in good condition. Size of engraved area 460mm x 230mm.

Early copper plate engraving' View of the house or shed called a Tupapow in Otaheite under which the dead are deposited with a representation of the peculiar dress of the principal mourner and a man climbing on the bread fruit tree to get out of the way'. Published by Alex Hogg around 1790.
