Views of the Coast of Kamtschatka, Siberia, Russia 1785.
Early copper plate map of 'Views on the Coast of Kamtschatka', Siberia Russia. Engraved for Anderson's edition of Captain Cook's Voyages and published by Alex Hogg in London in 1785. The upper picture shows the entrance to Awatska, the middle the entrance to Awatska Bay and the lower a view in the entrance of Awatska Bay when the lighthouse on the North Head bore SE by S, distance 2 miles. These views were taken by members of Captain Cook's third voyage during their visit to Kamtschatka following his death in Hawaii.
The chart, which has later hand colouring, has some creasing but generally is in good condition. Size of engraved area 350m x 210mm.

Tahiti South Pacific, Captain Cook C1785
Early folding copper plate map engraved for Anderson's edition of Captain Cook's Voyages and published by Hogg in 1785.
In this engraving there are four separate maps, charts of Tahiti, two of Ulietea and Huaheinehe. The charts illustrates small islands, sandbanks, watering places, depth soundings and anchorages. There are scales of distance and compasses.
The map, which has later hand colouring, has some creasing, the most visible being the top right hand corner, but generally it is in good condition. Size of engraved area 340m x 210mm.

Rare early copper plate map from the Official British publication of Cook's Third Voyage 1785. Both Cook's ships on this voyage, the Resolution and the Discovery, were badly in need of repairs so he headed for Unalaska (Aleutians) and the harbour of Samgoonada where the ship's carpenters took 3 weeks undertake the necessary work. During his enforced stay in Sanganooda Captain Cook charted the harbour taking depth soundings and drawing the harbour topography.

Christmas Island was discovered by Captain James Cook in the ships Resolution and Discovery on December 24, 1777. Named because they spent their Christmas there. This is the first mapping of Christmas Island (Kiribati).
